Autodesk @ Pier 9: Exploring the Possible

Autodesk is a 3D design, engineering & entertainment software company that uses coding to transcribe the human imagination. Pier 9 is the company's unique waterfront location that rests on the ebbing reflection of the Bay Bridge lights. This innovative warehouse space houses the AIR (artists in residence) program and instructables workshops.

Makers have access to tools at the frontier of digital manufacturing, 3D printing, welding, woodworking, and even a top-of-the-line kitchen. Below is a 3D printer that uses glue and layers of paper to vertically composite multi-dimensional sculptures from 2-dimensional slices of parchment and adhesive. The Pier was stocked with trinkets and designs that ranged from rotational blossoming flowers to future cityscapes of San Francisco. Using dimensional data of blue-prints, below you will find what SF will look like in the coming years.

The state of the art production facilities included a welding studio and intricate cutting machinery.

Other projects include a automized cocktail mixer, a water jet that can cut through 4-inches of metal, and a multi-dimensional carver.

Artist's developed exciting projects including Anouk Wipprecht Faraday Dress and Benjamin Cowden's Tiny Planet.

Finally, the most shocking part of the tour was finding one man's trash to be my treasure. I would have taken these suspended lights home with me...
